The Dental Hygienist's Association of Australia - NSW Branch Inc. is the NSW Branch of our national body, which represents the profession of dental hygiene in Australia. The Dental Hygienist's  Association of Australia was formed in 1991 and has branches in  all states of Australia, except the Northern Territory.

The DHAA Inc. is highly active in continually updating and advancing  the professional development and competencies of Dental Hygienists  through continuous professional education programs incorporating  evolving scientific knowledge and technology to meet the highest standards of care. It also plays an important role in the maintenance of high ethical standards.

The profession of dental hygiene is highly organised in many countries of the world.
Dental hygiene is organised internationally through the International Federation of Dental Hygienist's (IFDH), founded in 1986.

Australia was one of the founding member countries. The IFDH has  24 member national Dental Hygienists' associations, of which the  DHAA Inc. is one. The IFDH works with its member national organisations on areas of common interest, such as enhancing the  regulatory status and acceptance of professional credentials and improving the image and public knowledge of dental hygiene.

A global celebration will occur every year on the second Wednesday in October uniting over 35,000 dental hygienists worldwide - International Dental Hygienists' Day. 2002 marked the  inaugural year of this milestone.
